  • Pathiramanal

It is an island on the famous Vembanad Lake and is hardly 10 acres in size. Pathiramanal means the ‘sand of night’. The island is home to many rare varieties of migratory birds from different parts of the world and is a must visit when in Kumarakom. This is a great place for birdwatchers to click pictures of many exotic and colourful migratory birds from across the world.

  • Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls

An ideal picnic spot, the Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls are located two kilometres away from Kumarakom. Enjoy a relaxed and peaceful time with your loved ones as you watch the waters of the fall cascading down the cliff from a height of 100 feet! It falls in five steps and it is an ideal location to be photographed. Located amidst rubber plantations, the wooden landscape and the streams flowing down make the place one of the most picturesque waterfalls.

  • Juma Masjid

Located at a distance of about 12 km from Kumarakom, the Juma Masjid is a famous mosque at Thazhathangadi. Also known as Thazhathangadi Mosque, it lies on the banks of River Meenachil and a number of devotees throng here to this religious destination. Believed to be more than 1000 years old, it is also one of the oldest mosques in the country.

  • Ettumanoor Temple

Ettumanoor Temple, is one of the oldest temples in Kerala which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple has a history dated back to thousands of years ago and is said that the great sage Vyasa and Pandavas offered prayers at this place. It was constructed in 1542 AD and is beautifully decorated with the mural paintings of Dravidian period. It holds an annual Arattu festival in the month of February- March and draws a number of devotees to the premises.

  • Thirunakkara Mahadev Temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is an ancient temple which is believed to be 500 years old. It was built by Thekkumkoor Maharaja and the building in which it was constructed is known as Koothambalam. The temple exhibits an interesting example of South Indian architecture and the inner walls of it are tastefully decorated with exquisite mural paintings and superb sculptures that attract the tourists from all over the country. Every year the Phalguna Utsav is celebrated in the temple premises with great pomp and show.

  • Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

Also known as Vembanad Bird Sanctuary, it is a noted bird sanctuary where many species of migratory birds visit. A visit to the bird sanctuary, set within the lush acres of wooded land nearby, acquaints you to the variety of migratory birds that flock in thousands, some from the Himalayas, some even from as far as Siberia. In addition, you can get thrilled of the native kingfishers ablaze in psychedelic colours, experience a walk under rookeries of egrets and night herons or lone golden-backed woodpeckers and even delight in the acrobatics of the paradise fly-catchers.
